    Course Curriculum

    What you'll cover in SCH3U

    • Unit 1: Matter, Chemical Trends, and Chemical Bonding - Students explore atomic structure, periodic trends, and types of chemical bonding. They investigate how the properties of elements and compounds relate to their position on the periodic table and their bonding type, including ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds.
    • Unit 2: Chemical Reactions - Students classify and represent chemical reactions, including synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, double displacement, and combustion reactions. They balance chemical equations and investigate factors that affect reaction rates.
    • Unit 3: Quantities in Chemical Reactions - Students learn about the mole concept, molar mass, and stoichiometric calculations. They solve problems involving mass-mass, mass-volume, and limiting reagent relationships in chemical reactions.
    • Unit 4: Solutions and Solubility - Students explore the properties of solutions, concentration calculations, and factors affecting solubility. They investigate acids, bases, and neutralization reactions, and learn about pH and its significance in everyday and industrial contexts.
    • Unit 5: Gases and Atmospheric Chemistry - Students examine electric charge, electric fields, current, voltage, and resistance, and apply these concepts to analyze series and parallel circuits. The unit connects electrical principles to everyday technologies and introduces the relationship between electricity and magnetism.

As parents of a student who has completed a course with Ontario Education Online we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Ramos for his continuous care, support and professionalism. Every step of the way our son was able to receive feedback and ongoing support. The ability to access course materials through platforms like Google Classroom made learning both convenient and efficient, helping develop strong organizational skills and time-management skills. This improved the overall learning experience. Our sons experience with OEO has been invaluable, and we would highly recommend it to others seeking a flexible and engaging learning environment.
