Course Curriculum

What you'll cover in ENG2D

  • Short Stories: Reading with Intention - Students read and analyze a variety of short stories, focusing on how authors use character, conflict, setting, point of view, and theme to create meaning. Students develop skills in close reading and written response, learning to support their interpretations with specific evidence from the text.
  • Writing: Finding Your Voice - This unit develops writing skills across descriptive, narrative, persuasive, and expository forms. Students learn how to organize ideas, develop a clear thesis, use effective transitions, and edit for clarity and precision. The goal is confident, purposeful writing in any form.
  • Poetry: Language Under a Microscope - Students study how poets use imagery, figurative language, structure, sound, and form to create meaning and emotion. Through reading and analysis of poems from diverse voices and traditions, students develop an appreciation for the craft of poetry and write their own original poems using techniques studied in class.
  • Novel and Media Studies: Story in Different Forms - Students read a full-length novel and analyze it alongside related media texts, comparing how stories are told across different formats. The unit examines how both literary and media works convey themes, represent characters, and reflect social values, building students' ability to think critically about the stories they consume.
  • Drama Studies: Text, Performance, and Meaning - Students study dramatic literature, examining how playwrights use dialogue, staging, conflict, and character to tell stories designed for performance. Through reading, discussion, and creative response, students explore how drama differs from other literary forms and what it reveals about human experience and social issues.

Every step of the way our son was able to receive feedback and ongoing support. The ability to access course materials through platforms like Google Classroom made learning both convenient and efficient, helping develop strong organizational skills and time-management skills. This improved the overall learning experience. Our sons experience with OEO has been invaluable, and we would highly recommend it to others seeking a flexible and engaging learning environment.
