Course Curriculum

What you'll cover in CHC2P

  • Canada 1914-1929: War, Identity, and a Nation Finding Its Voice - Students examine Canada's involvement in World War I and its effect on national identity. Key topics include the contributions of Canadian soldiers, the impact of war on families and communities at home, women's suffrage, and the social changes of the 1920s. The unit helps students understand how a young country began to define itself on the world stage.
  • Canada 1929-1945: Hard Times and World War II - This unit covers the Great Depression and its impact on everyday Canadians including unemployment, poverty, and government responses, followed by Canada's involvement in World War II. Students examine how ordinary people were affected by these events and how Canada's role in the war changed the country's relationship with the world.
  • Canada 1945-1982: Growth, Rights, and Change - Students study Canada's post-war growth including the baby boom, the rise of social programs like Medicare, and the growing rights movements of Indigenous peoples and women. The unit also covers Quebec nationalism and the Constitution Act of 1982, examining how Canadians worked to define their rights and values.
  • Canada 1982-Present: Who We Are Today - The final unit brings Canada's story to the present, examining reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, immigration and multiculturalism, and the social and political issues that continue to shape Canadian identity. Students are encouraged to make personal connections to this history and think about their own role as Canadian citizens.

Every step of the way our son was able to receive feedback and ongoing support. The ability to access course materials through platforms like Google Classroom made learning both convenient and efficient, helping develop strong organizational skills and time-management skills. This improved the overall learning experience. Our sons experience with OEO has been invaluable, and we would highly recommend it to others seeking a flexible and engaging learning environment.
