What you'll learn in this course

The Writer's Toolbox

This unit introduces students to the fundamental tools and techniques that writers use to craft compelling stories. Through exploring elements such as plot, characterization, and setting, students will develop their understanding of the essential components of storytelling.

Narrative Fiction

In this unit students delve into the world of narrative fiction, studying various forms such as short stories and novels. They analyze narrative structures, examine different narrative techniques, and explore the ways in which authors create engaging and meaningful stories.

Poetry

This unit focuses on the art of poetry, exploring various poetic forms, techniques, and devices. Students will study the power of imagery, rhythm, and figurative language, as well as analyze the themes and emotions conveyed through poetry.

Drama

Students explore the realm of drama, examining plays from different time periods and genres. They analyze the elements of dramatic structure, study character development, and explore the techniques used to effectively convey dialogue and stage directions.

Creative Non-Fiction

This unit introduces students to the genre of creative nonfiction, which combines elements of storytelling with factual information. Through studying memoirs, personal essays, and other forms of creative nonfiction, students develop their ability to craft engaging narratives based on real-life experiences and events.
