Course Curriculum
What you'll cover in ENG3U
Non-Fiction: Reading and Thinking Critically - Students read and analyze a range of non-fiction texts including essays, speeches, journalism, and memoirs, with a focus on evaluating arguments, identifying rhetorical strategies, and distinguishing between strong and weak evidence. Students write analytical responses that demonstrate sophisticated close reading and clear reasoning.
Novel Study: Analyzing Extended Narrative - Students read a full-length novel and analyze it with increasing depth and independence, examining characterization, narrative structure, theme, and the author's craft. Students develop the skill of tracking complex ideas across a long text and writing extended analytical responses that go beyond surface-level summary.
Poetry: Voice, Form, and Meaning - Students engage with poetry from a range of traditions, time periods, and cultural perspectives, analyzing how poets create meaning through language, structure, and form. Students develop their own poetic voice through original writing, experimenting with techniques studied in class and refining their work through feedback.
Drama Study: Text, Subtext, and Social Commentary - Students read and analyze a significant dramatic work, examining how playwrights use dialogue, stage directions, dramatic irony, and conflict to communicate ideas and provoke thought. Students connect the themes of the play to broader social and historical contexts and write sophisticated analytical responses.

As parents of a student who has completed a course with Ontario Education Online we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Ramos for his continuous care, support and professionalism. Every step of the way our son was able to receive feedback and ongoing support. The ability to access course materials through platforms like Google Classroom made learning both convenient and efficient, helping develop strong organizational skills and time-management skills. Yes. All Ontario universities accept OEO credits as official OSSD credits. OEO is a Ministry-inspected private school (BSID #882902) and your credit appears on an official Ontario transcript. Admissions offices at the University of Toronto, McMaster, Western, Queen's, York, Ottawa, and all other Ontario universities treat these credits identically to those earned at any public or private day school.
Students currently residing in Canada pay $599 CAD. Students outside Canada pay a different rate to account for currency differences and administrative costs related to international transcript handling. Both groups receive the same course content, the same Ontario-certified teacher, and the same official OSSD credit. Contact us if you have questions about the international pricing before enrolling.
No. ENG3U at OEO is fully asynchronous and self-paced. You access course materials, complete assignments, and submit your work whenever works for you, day or night, weekday or weekend. There are no scheduled live classes, no mandatory login times, and no fixed pacing requirements. You control your schedule entirely.
Mr. El-Yamani B.A., BEd., OCT, your Ontario-certified Teacher, personally reviews each assignment you submit and returns detailed written feedback within 48-72 hours on weekdays. They will also get back to you with any questions you may have in the course within 24 hours on weekdays. You'll receive comments on what you did well, where marks were deducted, and specific guidance on what to focus on next. This one-on-one feedback loop is one of the biggest advantages of learning at OEO compared to a traditional classroom where a teacher is managing 30 students at once.
If you haven't yet accessed any course content, you can request a full refund within 7 days of purchase. Once course units have been opened and accessed, refunds are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We always try to find a fair solution. If something comes up, reach out to us at info@ontarioeducationonline.ca and we'll work with you.
Most students complete ENG3U in 4 to 8 weeks. Students who study 3 to 4 hours per day typically finish in 4 to 5 weeks. If you have a university application deadline approaching, book a guidance session and we'll help you plan a realistic study schedule that fits your timeline. A course can completed in as little as 4 weeks, as there is a maximum of 4 lessons allowed to be completed in a day. You work at whatever pace suits you.
